Citizen Participatory Audit in the Philippines

Philippines / December 15, 2021

SUMMARY

The Citizen Participatory Audit goes beyond simple auditing by working closely with civil society on a range of policy decisions to improve people’s lives. It uses a constructive engagement approach between citizens and government to validate the government’s use of public resources to improve service delivery, protect rights, and promote community welfare.

This improved many services at the local level, such as health centers in Barangay, public schools in Manila, residential water supply services in Quezon City, and solid waste management. Citizens are better-informed, more involved, and more vigilant, and the government is more accountable, responsive, effective, and efficient.
